Dr. Donna Dean, former president of AWIS National, will join us to discuss her book “Getting the Most out of Your Mentoring Relationships. A Handbook for Women in STEM.” Copies of the book will be made available for purchase and there will be plenty of time for questions and conversation with our speaker!

Donna J. Dean is a Senior Science Advisor with Lewis-Burke Associates LLC, a government relations firm. Prior to joining Lewis-Burke Donna was a Senior Scholar at the National Academy of Engineering, a Senior Advisor for Engineering to the Director of the National Institutes of Health, founding director of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, a regulatory scientist at the Food and Drug Administration, and a researcher at the National Institutes of Health and Princeton. Dr. Dean is a former president of AWIS national and serves on the Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Executive Board of the Washington Academy of Sciences. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Berea College and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Duke University. Please find the link to Donna’s book below:

USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo Dates: October 23 & 24, 2010; 10:00am-5:30pm.
AWIS is proud to be an Official Partner of the Inaugural USA Science & Engineering Festival to be held in the greater Washington DC area in October 2010.
The Festival, which will be the country's first national science festival, is a collaboration of over 500 of the country's leading science and engineering organizations and aims to reignite the interest of our nation's youth in the sciences. The culmination of the Festival will be a two-day Expo on the National Mall on October 23-24, 2010, which will give children, teens and adults the opportunity to explore all facets of science & engineering through hundreds of fun, hands-on activities.
People across the United States are encouraged to hold Satellite Events in their communities the same weekend that hundreds of thousands of people celebrate science on the National Mall For more information on all Festival events and how you can get involved, visit www.usasciencefestival.org.
